iPhone App

The original dream for Sports Card Album was to create a mobile platform that would allow collectors to add cards to their collections and view others' collections anytime, anywhere.

Although we've had a nice mobile site since we launched, we knew the only way to truly convey the Sports Card Album experience would be through legit "apps." Since a large percentage of our initial user-base was on iOS (Apple's mobile operating system,) we decided to develop the iPhone app first.

steps

The following is a list of features included in the original Sports Card Album app:

    1. Ability to add cards to your collection
    2. Ability to add card details
    3. Ability to follow friends in your feed
    4. Ability to comment on cards
    5. Ability to "like" cards
    6. Ability to tweet/facebook/email cards
    7. Ability to search eBay for similar cards
    8. Ability to search for specific cards
    9. Ability to send private messages

steps

The first version of the iPhone app launched on March 12th, 2014, with a price tag of $3.99US. All proceeds from the sale of this app went directly towards funding some new features for the app. Version 1.2 of the Sports Card Album app launched in May of 2014 with the following new features:

    1. Ability to create albums
    2. Ability to designate albums for cards
    3. Ability to rotate cards
    4. Ability to edit card details
    5. New Sliding menu
    6. Ability to edit profile picture
    7. New menu for editing card details & tags
    8. Additional aesthetic improvements & bug fixes

Free iPhone App

We at Sports Card Album understand that while $3.99 is considered dirt cheap for a pack of cards, it seems downright ludicrous for an app. Especially if your iTunes account is under your significant others' name (or your parent's name) and you don't have the cajones to buy it because you're afraid of getting in trouble. We don't want you getting grounded or being forced to sleep on the couch, so we made a FREE app for you! Hooray!!! Click HERE to download the free app today.

The free version of the app is functionally identical to the paid version, it just has some ads on it.

Android & iPad Apps

Apps are ridiculously expensive...especially if you want to do them right. These aren't like allergy medications where the knock-off brands are the same as the name-brands. Apps can either suck or they can be amazing. We want Sports Card Album to be amazing, so we've been using only top-shelf app developers. Crazy thing about top-shelf app developers is that they want top-shelf money. And since you aren't paying a single penny to use the Sports Card Album website, we've been having to boot-strap the heck out of this and fund the app 100% ourselves.

Before you get all whiney thinking we got filthy rich off the app, keep in mind two things: 1) Ads on SCA don't cover the monthly server costs and 2) Sales of the original iPhone app went straight towards funding all the iPhone app updates.

So here is where we stand: the iPad app requires a lot of work since it will be an entirely unique experience from the iPhone app. Why? Because the larger screen-size allows us to do more things. This app is already in development but will take some time.

Regarding the Android app, this will simply be a direct port of the latest iPhone app; however, Android apps must be capable of working on hundreds of different models, so it takes seemingly FOREVER to get these apps tested and working properly across the board. And the more time it takes, the more money it costs. For some reason these app developers don't like working for free...figures.

We are working very hard to upgrade the Sports Card Album website, update the existing apps, and bootstrap the development of the iPad and Android apps. We know you can't wait to get your hands on the goods, but we want you to know that we greatly appreciate your patience and that it will be worth the wait :-)
